T&F Report March 2021
The KZNA League 4 held at Kings Park on Saturday 6/03/2021
We had 11 masters competing in the track runs and field events.
The League went ahead with a few events having to restart because of damp caps in the starter’s gun. However, the events were all on time and there were water sachets for the walkers. I have observed over the years, just how unfortunate these walkers can have it – lap counting being a huge problem, unfair DSQ and then at League 4, a huge puddle of water on the inside lane of the first bend! The walkers had to walk around said puddle – not a good situation. There were 2 staff members attempting to clear the puddle but not very efficiently!
Shona Hutchinson was again in top form and produced an outstanding 400mH run. Her time of 1:05.18 (95.95%) is a new SA record (pending ratification), beating the old SA W45 record of 1:08.7
Shona also set new records in the 200m, clocking 25.41s to improve on Adri Schoeman’s SA W45 200m record. (pending ratification)
In the 100m Shona beat Anna du Plessis’s 100m record from 2004 achieving a new KZN W45 100m record of 12.72s.
Excellent effort Shona – Well Done!
League 5 was held at Kings Park on Saturday13/03/2021
18 master athletes competed in the track runs and field events. The only glitch being the marking cones, again on the inside lane at the first bend – these were being blown across the track by the wind. A strip of duct tape on each cone would have held them down.
2 x KZNMA records were broken, both by Angela Cilliers in the field events:
W50 Discus 27.05m and W50 Shotput 10.06m (pending application & ratification)
Very Well Done Angela!
There have been some very good performances produced by our master athletes. Sandeep Singh has a lovely running style and has consistently improved his 1500m times. He ran a noteworthy time of 4:37.11 at League 5 – showing the youngsters a thing or two!
KZNA Masters Championships were due to be held on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 March 2021. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, these dates have now been fixed for the KZNA JUNIOR/SENIOR Championships. Masters will be allowed to enter, but they will have to compete as a Senior.
Arrangements are being made to host a dedicated Masters Champs.
