MESSAGE TO ALL OUR WALKERS
We have all been in the unfortunate void of not having competition of any sort in order for us to compete in proper races…. But we want to keep our fitness and speed levels up as much as we can, especially with our much look forwarded to 2021 SAMA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS which will be held virtually between 1st & 14th November 2021
We will hold a VIRTUAL SELF ASSESSMENT WALK event on :
SATURDAY 21st AUGUST 2021
VENUE: BLUE LAGOON, DURBAN
TIME: 7am
This will operate as follows:
The Walker will either do a ½ Hour Walk or a 1 hour Walk, using their sports watches to see what Mileage they achieved in this time. Obviously the ½ Hour Walkers do 15 mins from start(Blue Lagoon) and turn to go back to start – the Hour Walkers will do 30 mins from start and turn to go back to start. There will be assisters at the end to take the mileage that the walker has achieved.
This will keep our Walkers aware of what they can do and motivated.
Runners are welcome.

Race Walking Report 2020
Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 that overtook any sporting events, there is truly little to report. Also, quite a few walking athletes were nursing injuries.
There was an attempt to do some virtual ‘races’ inter Provincially which was successful in Gauteng North, but KZN athletes were very slack in coming forward and taking part in this despite having been given all the information.
There were a few of the KZN Masters walkers who did participate and these were Ingrid Bolt, Caryn Loudon, Jodi Pastorino, Elizabeth Howard-Davies and Les Williams; Ollie Mundell was requested from GN to act as Admin for these events
There were 8 KZNA T & F events held during the year, 5 during January & February before lockdown and a further 3 Odd events in December. Congratulations to the following masters athletes who took part – Caryn Louden, Jeanine LeFebour, Sharon Troll and Layle-Rose Cathey.
Hopefully matters will improve.
Good luck to all walkers trying to get some training in prior to getting back to normal.
Jodi Pastorino.

Chris Callaghan, from Gauteng did arrange a Virtual Team Race that all Provinces were invited to – but unfortunately our KZN Masters were either not fit, injured or could not form a Team 🙂
